CAS 73-40-5 Guanine
Guanine CAS 73-40-5 is an organic base widely present in the animal and plant kingdom. The chemical name is 2-amino-6-oxypurine, a colorless square crystal or crystalline powder. In an aqueous solution containing a large excess of ammonia, the water is slowly evaporated to form a small diamond shaped crystal, with a melting point of 360 ℃ (decomposed and partially sublimated). Soluble in ammonia, caustic soda, and dilute mineral acids, slightly soluble in ethanol and ether, insoluble in water, and has strong absorption of ultraviolet rays. It is a component of guanosine and guanylic acid. Its hydrochloride is a monohydrate powder like crystal that loses water at 100 ℃ and hydrogen chloride at 200 ℃. It is soluble in acidified water and insoluble in water, ethanol, and ether. Guanine can be obtained by hydrolysis of fish scales with hydrochloric acid. It is an important base for the formation of nucleic acids, one of the four main bases in DNA and RNA, and also a component of various guanosine acids. Its N9 is linked to ribose or deoxyribose C1 β- Glycoside bonds connect to form guanosine or deoxyguanosine.
