CAS 68333-79-9 ammonium polyphosphate
Ammonium polyphosphate CAS 68333-79-9 , abbreviated as APP, is a nitrogen-containing phosphate that is a white powder. Ammonium polyphosphate can be divided into three types based on its degree of polymerization: low polymer, medium polymer, and high polymer. The higher the degree of polymerization, the smaller the water solubility. Crystalline ammonium polyphosphate is a water-soluble and long-chain polyphosphate. There are five variants from I to V type. Among them, highly polymerized Chemicalbook crystalline type II ammonium polyphosphate has significant advantages in the field of polymer materials due to its good water solubility, high decomposition temperature, and good compatibility with polymer materials. Compared with halogenated flame retardants, crystalline type II ammonium polyphosphate has the characteristics of low toxicity, low smoke, and inorganic properties, making it a new type of high-efficiency inorganic flame retardant.

Physical and chemical properties
Ammonium polyphosphate has a white powder appearance, close to neutral, and can be mixed with any other substance without any chemical changes. Short chain (n ≤ 20) APP has water solubility, while long chain (n>20) APP is difficult to dissolve in water. The solubility of industrial APP in water is 1.3g/100mL (15 ℃) or 3.0g/100mL (25 ℃ Chemicalbook), and the solubility increases significantly with temperature. APP can be hydrolyzed, and the hydrolysis rate varies with particle size, temperature, and pH value. As temperature increases and pH value decreases, hydrolysis accelerates. The APP has good thermal stability, with a thermal decomposition temperature above 250 ℃. During decomposition, ammonia and water are released, and phosphoric acid is generated. It decomposes completely at 700 ℃. The remaining 6% to 7% residue.
