Application
Used as a precipitant, chemical reagent, and waterproofing agent; Palmitic acid is used to produce odorless chloramphenicol and various metal salts of palmitic acid, and can be used as emulsifier in lotion polymerization.
The sodium salt or potassium salt of palmitic acid can be used as an emulsifier in lotion polymerization. The sodium salt of palmitic acid is one of the main components of soap. Its aluminum salt and zinc salt are used in lubricants, coatings, inks and plasticizers. In industry, palmitic acid is obtained by saponification and neutralization of animal and vegetable fats such as butter, lard, and palm oil.
In World War II, derivatives of palmitic acid were used to manufacture napalm bombs. A crystalline stearic acid product can be obtained by mixing palmitic acid and stearic acid in a ratio of 45% to 55%, which can be applied to the cosmetics industry.
