9-fluorenone CAS 486-25-9 is an important organic synthesis intermediate that can be used to manufacture various fine chemicals, mainly used as a modifier for synthesizing polymer materials, bisphenol fluorene, fluorenyl benzoxazine resin, acrylic resin, polyester, polycarbonate, and epoxy resin. In the laboratory, fluorene is used as the raw material, dimethyl sulfoxide as the solvent, sodium hydroxide as the catalyst, and oxygen as the oxidant. The oxidation reaction is carried out in a tower packed reactor. The reaction solution is cooled and filtered to obtain crude fluorenone with a content of 93%. The filtrate can be distilled to recover 94% of the solvent and some of the crude fluorenone. Crude fluorenone can be refined by directional crystallization to obtain yellow flake fluorenone with a purity of over 99.8%.
