Magnesium acetate CAS 142-72-3 is an organic salt with the structural formula Mg (CH3COO) 2. Usually tetrahydrate, with a colorless monoclinic crystal appearance and a density of 1.454 g/cm3 (anhydrous material density of 1.42 g/cm3). It is easily soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is neutral or weakly acidic. It is soluble in crystalline water at 80 ℃. Deliquescence in humid air, weathering in a concentrated sulfuric acid dryer, and dehydration at 100 ℃. Used as an analytical reagent to prepare sodium magnesium acetate for the determination of sodium content in substances. It is also used in medicine, catalysts, etc. It can react with magnesium carbonate and acetic acid, and after concentration, precipitate magnesium acetate crystals.
